Laser tattoo removal works by a laser penetrating the skin, which breaks up the ink particles in the tattoo without damaging the skin, the body will remove the ink particles naturally through the lymphatic system.
During the treatment the laser is aimed at the tattoo, you will hear a loud sound and the tattoo turns a white colour, this will subside shortly after the treatment.
Multiple sessions are needed for the tattoo to go completely, treatments should be done every 6 - 8 weeks.
Laser Tattoo Removal can be a painful process as it is hot, due to the heat of the laser, but it is a fast treatment and a cool pack is applied to the area afterwards.
Once you have a tattoo removed, it is important to follow up with the proper aftercare to prevent any complications and complete healing. The laser used to remove a tattoo may cause a superficial burn wound, as well as bruising, swelling, scabs.
Blisters or crusts may develop and may last up to 2 weeks.
The entire healing process after laser tattoo removal should be complete in 6 to 8 weeks.
THE HEALING PROCESS
For the first 24 to 48 hours after the laser tattoo removal, you can use a cool compress directly on the area for any inflammation or discomfort. After the laser removal and until the area is completely healed, be sure to clean the area with soap and water and gently pat dry. The area may develop a scab or crust, which is normal. Make sure you do not pick at the area or allow the scab to be damaged or scrapped. If this happens, the area may become infected. If so call us on 07913 002 750.
THINGS TO AVOID
Shaving is not recommended until the area is completely healed. Use unscented lotions without artificial colours. You should use at least 25 SPF on the area during any sun exposure for up to 3 months after removal. Steroids or blood thinners may interact with the healing process.
Consult your GP if you are on any of these medications before laser tattoo removal.
PAY ATTENTION
Because everyone is different, it is important to pay attention to any skin changes, you may have redness, burning, bruising, whiteness, scabs, blisters, crusts or swelling but these symptoms are normal for 1 to 2 weeks.
